The Murata Business Center is a small business incubator located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. It was region's first business incubator[1] and provides assistance to early-stage companies and entrepreneurs. Murata is part of the Harrisburg Market Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ), a state program encouraging local job growth in the technology sector.[2]

The business center has been home to several technology companies including PestPatrol, Z-Band, and BitLeap. PestPatrol, an early maker of anti-spyware software, entered Murata in 2002. While at the center, the company grew to 70 employees. It was sold to Computer Associates for $40 million in 2004.[3]

History

In 1997, Murata Electronics of North America, a subsidiary of Murata Manufacturing, donated [4] a 34,000 square foot manufacturing facility to the Capital Region Economic Development Corporation (CREDC). CREDC is the economic development branch of the Harrisburg Regional Chamber and is supported by Pennsylvania's Business Retention and Expansion Program.[5] The Murata site was designated a small business incubator and renamed the Murata Business Center.

In early 2004, the business center added a 15,000 square foot addition to the original building.[6] The addition included modern services and office space necessary to support technology oriented businesses.
