Night of the Living Dead is a 1968 film directed by George A. Romero on a miniscule budget of $114,000 (USD) that has grown to be one of the biggest cult classics of all time. The neglect of the original theatrical distributor to place a copyright notice on the prints of the film put the film entirely in the realm of public domain. George Romero revolutionized the horror film industry with Night of the Living Dead. The film and its successors spawned countless imitators that borrowed elements instituted by Romero and spawned the entire "slasher film" genre.
