Casey Gardiner (born July 30, 1988 in London, Ontario) is an Canadian male tennis player. Although born in Canada he holds a United States Citizenship. He is currently the only male professional tennis player serving in the military on active duty.

He turned professional in 2008, he is sponsored by Babolat.

Career

2008

After taking a year off, Casey received a wild card into the qualifying round of the ATP Challenger event in Yuba City, California. Casey went on to qualify for the main draw where he made it to Round 2 (R16), earning him a total of 9 ATP points.

2007

Casey took the year off tennis to join the United States Marine Corps

2006

A breakout year for Casey when he was undefeded in High school Division I Michigan Varsity Boy's Tennis. He also received wild cards to the qualifying rounds of the ATP event in Lansing, Michigan and the ATP Masters Series event in Cincinnati, Ohio but never made the main draw. In March, Casey was Andy Roddick's hitting partner for the NASDAQ 100 Open in Miami, Florida.

2005

Gardiner attempted to qualify for numerous USTA Pro Circuit events and, as a 16 year old, received a wildcard to the qualifying round of the ATP event in Lansing, Michigan.

Junior career

As a member of the Head Junior Elite team,[1] Casey reached the quarterfinals of the Junior US Open in 2006. He also was a finalist at the 2006 Luxilon Cup held at the 2006 Sony Ericsson Open where he lost to Kei Nishikori. As a Junior, Casey has held the No. 3 ranking in the Boy's Singles 16s and 18s divisions.

Personal

Gardiner lives in Carlsbad, California. He is coached by Kate Frestfield and is mentored by ATP player Taylor Dent. His parents are Wendy and Robert and he has a sister, Kaity, who is a active in ballet. His family currently lives in Traverse City, Michigan. His hobbies include video games, sleeping, listening to music, and eating (potatoes being his favorite food). Vince Spadea is his favorite tennis player and he enjoys playing on a hard court. He is bilingual, fluent in French as well as English. In 2008, Casey was quoted in the New York Times article about serving in the Marine Corps with Jimmy McCain, son of Senator and Presidential Candidate John McCain[2].
