Wallace Artworks philosophy is that photography is all about capturing unique moments. Family portrait sessions are held at the family's home, on location or in the studio. Director/ Photographer Helen Wallace-Thomson explains: "We can come to you to capture your memories in an atmosphere you feel totally comfortable with, your own home. Your relaxed and friendly photographer will capture your family's individual personalities in their natural environment". She continues, "I think it's fair to say that most people, and in particular young children might find the studio environment a bit daunting and intimidating. We like to give you a choice. Conducting a shoot when children are at play, when they are themselves, removes the formality and ensures the best shots are captured." As a mother to young children herself, Ms Wallace feels she can bring something different to the tradition of the family portrait. "I understand children...... I get it. They're fun, energetic, sometimes they're tired or cranky or even hard work, they're almost always playful but above all, they are unique. Every family is different and it's my job to capture a little bit of that personality."

The expansion of Wallace Artworks, as a company, is an interesting one. Weddings were a fairly late addition to the repertoire, Ms Wallace explains: "I decided to take on weddings after trying to find a photographer for my own wedding. I found that the vast majority were way out of my budget. I eventually found one great freelance we could afford and he inspired me to expand into wedding coverage. The philosophy is simple, Wedding photography should be affordable for all and suit every budget. I wish to ensure that couples on modest budgets can have fantastic photography too!"

In describing the wedding side of her work, Ms Wallace summarises: "Working in a predominantly reportage style, I aim to capture the spontaneous as it happens. Those little treasured moments that will stay with you for a lifetime. Every wedding is different and the photography for each event should reflect this..... rather than a 'one size fits all' approach. Your photos, just like your wedding, will be unique to you.... so no standard repeated poses or 'playing it safe'. So if you want to meet for a coffee and a chat about your big day, give us a call!" [4] The company has a heavy emphasis on customer service. Various review sites provide ample opportunity for past clients to air their views and opinions. In the case of Wallace Artworks, these have been favourable. [5] [5] [5]

History

In August 2010, Wallace Artworks Photography opened their first dedicated premises. Based in Gilmore Place, situated near the city centre of Edinburgh. The location falls between Bruntsfield to the the South, Fountainbridge to the North and lies between Polwarth/Merchiston to the West and Tollcross to the East. It is in close proximity to The Kings Theatre and The Bruntsfield Hotel. The company was established in 2006, as a business operated from home. There is a heavy emphasis on fair pricing. The company expanded into the wedding market after the founder couldn't find a photographer for her own wedding, within her budget. The company mantra is that everyone should have access to quality photography regardless of budget.
