Tom Walker is a heavy metal musician from Milton Keynes in the United Kingdom. As of December 2009, he has released two full-length albums, one EP and seven singles. His music is predominantly classified by its lack of a drumbeat - the reason for this being his desire to have every element of the songs being his genuine playing, combined with the fact he doesn't play the drums. The songs are therefore driven by the guitars. The two albums were released on CD, while the singles have all been released online. The EP, named 'You Can't Stop Me', was released online, however a small CD run was produced for Walker's close friends and supporters. The E.P. had been the subject of a long, drawn-out revealing of information leading up to its release. Prior to the announcement of the name, it was referred to as 'Project Nine'.

On Friday, December 11 2009, Tom Walker announced through his twitter[1] page that a new single would be released on January 16th, the second anniversary of the release of Downhill Flight, his first single. The single was released online, named 'Hillside View'. On April 23 he announced, again through twitter, that a new single was in the works, with a title and release date to be confirmed.

Musical Style

Most of Tom Walker's songs can be described as 'heavy metal', although as mentioned above they lack the drum section which is a part of that genre. A few of the songs are more gentle, leaning towards a progressive rock style. Almost every single song includes a guitar solo, something which is typical of classic heavy metal. Another progressive element is the track lengths of some of the songs. The longest song to date, 'The Return', is 9:32 in length. Walker cites his biggest musical influences as being Iron Maiden and Metallica.

Tom Walker's music also draws influence from more modern acts and genres. Several songs include passages of screamed vocals, inspired by the screaming styles of Trivium's Matt Heafy and System of a Down's Daron Malakian, among others. Several of the songs also experiment with unusual time signatures and keys. The song 'Within the Cloud of War' is in 7/4, 5/4 and 4/4, whilst 'Experiment' features a guitar solo played in 5/4 time.

The covers to Checkpoint and Heart of Your Soul were completely digital.
